Things you need to know to succeed in DAN250

Make-up Work:

If you should miss class, for any reason, you are expected to make it up within a week. If you need more time than this, please contact me.

If you are missing a class, please communicate this at least the night before the class time. I will attempt to record it for you, so you can make it up.

  • If there are questions raised by the instructor or classmates during the class, to facilitate conversation or exploration, please answer them in a Google Doc, email, or video sent to the instructor.

    • If you had an assigned group for any class, you will also send your answers to that group.

  • Please complete any prompts/questions posed on the blog.

Journals:

Your journals are due on the date in the syllabus. These may be written (in a notebook which you will take photos of and send me), typed (a Google doc you can share with me), or be a series of videos (make an unlisted YouTube playlist and send me the link). There will also be journal prompts given in class around the experiences/discussions.

Video assignments/options:

As dance is an embodied, energetic form, I would like our assignments and discussions to be as
embodied as possible, which will mean more videos than text.

You can use whatever device is most comfortable for you to create these on

You can make your videos as simple (hold and shoot) or complex (ring lights, filters, props, sound cues, etc) as you like.
The “look” of your video will never affect any grade.

On video assignments I will also include about how much time I think your video would be, as opposed to paragraph length.

If you are not in a space that is conducive for creating videos, you may:

  • Create an audio file, so we still get a sense of your presence through your voice
  • Complete the assignment/request in a written format
Videos in discussion threads are viewable by all members of the class.

Videos in assignments are viewable only by the creator and me.

Videos of other class participants are never to be shared in any format or platform.

“Don’t freeze me in time”- what we say in our videos is only a representation of where we are in our explorations at that moment. They are invitations to further discussion, exploration,
and reflection. You are welcome to edit your video or remove it from the platform should you find
that it no longer fits the discoveries you are making about yourself, and replace it with an update!
We all will hold space for each other’s growth and/or change.
