ReplyDeleteThis is the dance I was talking about in Journal 5 “Sea Dance” I love the rhythm and tempo of this dance, they start this dance by sitting on the floor and forming a circle they use their hands to clap and as they do they close in the circle and then it opens up again. As the music goes on they randomly start to stand up and do any dance move they wish to do but it has to be on beat and matches the flow of the music. The dance usually starts slow and then becomes fast then slow again and so on. This dance means a lot to me as it was created by my ancestors who sailed to provide for their families. -Jasem
This dance video means a lot to me. The flash mob took place in the largest mall at the Middle East in it was done in 2012. It’s special to me because I was amongst the audience and it was such a surprise to me and to all the people around me. The song played was a famous national song and the dance was influenced by the sea dance our ancestors used to dance. It was something we spoke about for weeks and it’s still stuck with me until this day. I play the video from time to time because it reminds me of that special day.
ReplyDeleteThe dance requires feet, hands, elbows and hand movements. It can be fast paced or slow paced depending on the music itself. And the dance express happiness and welcoming.

ReplyDeleteThis folk dance called “Samri Dance” from Kuwait is one of the most widely known dance from Kuwait. It is usually danced at special occasions such as weddings. It is beautiful to me because it shows that dance does not have to be extremely technical. As the songs are usually poems, the meaning of each dance is different, but the flow is usually the same. It is a slow tempo dance and very free flowing. The dance is usually held by a large group with two rows of people opposing each other. All of them are clapping together in a specific rhythm. The dancers are upright most of the time. When it is done by women, they usually flaunt their long hair in a circular fashion, which I have never seen anyone else do before. This dance means a lot to me because it is still danced today, I love that we are sticking with our culture and have not forgotten it, which is easy to do in our very connected world.
These are all great- thank you for sharing them!
